Taproom Treas, Planetarium Seas, & Comedy After Hours

If you are feeling the early chill or settling into that pre-Thanksgiving mood, we've got a full week of things to do from Kendall/MIT through Davis. Clay rafting sessions, tile games at breweries, immersive planetarium shows (my personal choice), and comedy rooms all throughout Camberville carry a social charge that gives you more incentive to head out and make new friends. Oh and if that's not enough, take a peak at what's going on this weekend.

THE MIDWEEK MOVE

Every Monday the Cantab flips its downstairs room into a full open-mic setup, laying out the stage, lights, and sign-up list as singers, poets, comics, and storytellers cycle through new pieces, short sets, and experiments, with a steady crowd filtering in all night | FREE, 8pm–11pm

Monday, November 17th

Pup Fest: Battle of the Bites @ Tandem Vet Care, Cambridge – A playful afternoon where top local chefs whip up imaginative, gourmet dishes for dogs, turning the clinic into a tail-wagging tasting event that supports Last Hope K9 Rescue | FREE, 3-5pm

Chess Matches @ Boudreau Branch (Library), Cambridge – A weekly meetup where neighbors of all ages pull up a board, test their strategy, and trade friendly matches in the library’s cozy community room; sets are provided, so just drop in and play | FREE, 5–6pm

Open Mic Night @ Cantab Lounge, Cambridge – A Monday night showcase where singers, poets, comics, and storytellers grab the mic to test new material, swap sets, and see what others in the room are working on | FREE, 6:30–9:30pm

Tuesday, November 18th

Bonsai Tree Crafting Class @ Lamplighter CX, Cambridge – Spend the evening learning how to pot, prune, and shape a miniature tree with step-by-step guidance from Bonsai Bar instructors, all while hanging out with friends and a Lamplighter pint in hand | $85, 7–9pm

Hackathon Night @ CIC Cambridge – A civic-tech meetup where coders, designers, and curious newcomers team up on open-source projects, join project groups, and hop between in-person tables and Zoom breakouts (if you’d like to attend virtually) as they build tools for public good | FREE, 7pm–9:30pm

Wednesday, November 19th

Mahjong Tile Club @ Aeronaut Brewing, Somerville – A weekly night of Hong Kong–style mahjong where beginners and seasoned players mix tables, learn from each other, and play a few rounds over beers in Aeronaut’s taproom | $15, 6-9pm

Stitch ’n B*tch @ Boston Figure Arts Center, Somerville– A bring-your-own-project hang for anyone with half-finished sewing, knitting, crochet, or textile ideas, with artist/designer Mary Kahle offering on-the-spot feedback while you stitch, snack, chat, and finally make progress in a no-pressure living-room setting | $10, 6–9pm

Letter Writing Workship (Platonic Love) @ Lovestruck Books, Harvard Sq - A cozy letter-writing workshop led by Aja Frost where you learn how to craft meaningful handwritten notes for the people you care about - you’ll start with a welcome drink, hear Aja share tips on reflection and gratitude, then dive into a guided session with prompts and all materials provided. You’ll leave with a finished letter and a calm little reset before the holidays | $18, 7–9pm

Sounds of the Ocean Immsersion @ Museum of Science (Charles Hayden Planetarium), Cambridge – A one-night dome show that blends whale and dolphin calls with live music and ocean imagery, guiding you through an underwater journey that’s calming, immersive, and easy to sink into | $25, 7:30-9pm

Honky Tonk Two-Stepping Dancing @ Remnant Brewing Satellite, Somerville – A Wednesday night country session with a quick two-step lesson at 8pm followed by full-band line dancing, giving you plenty of time to learn steps, switch partners, and hit the floor | $5, 8–10:30pm

Comedy Show: Molly Brenner @ The Comedy Studio, Cambridge – NY-based comedian Molly Brenner brings her festival-toured solo comedy to The Comedy Studio for one night, fresh off runs at Edinburgh Fringe, Union Hall, and the Women in Comedy Festival, with credits spanning UCB, Limestone, and SF Sketchfest | $18-$24, 8pm

Amateur Comedy Contest @ The Burren, Somerville – New comics and seasoned locals take turns on stage competing for a cash prize, with the winner picked by audience applause in the Burren’s back room late-night slot | FREE, 10pm

Thursday, November 20th

Clay Mosaic Class @ The Foundry, Cambridge – A drop-in art session where you sculpt air-dry clay and build mosaics with shells, charms, glass, and beads, with all supplies included and space to make something personal at your own pace | Pay-What-You-Can ($20 suggested), 5pm–7pm

Latte Art Workshop Class @ The Foundry, Cambridge – A hands-on class where baristas walk you through milk texturing, pouring control, and the steps to make clean hearts, tulips, and rosettas, with time on both home and commercial espresso machines | $71, 5:30–7pm

Cornhole League @ CanalSide, Cambridge – Weekly cornhole matches returns for 6 weeks — here, teams play two matches a night to 21, rotate through courts, and grab food and drinks from CanalSide’s mix of vendors between games; beginners and small groups can be paired up; great way to meet new friends, socialize, shop and stay warm | $75, 6–9pm

Live Music (Friend of a Friend) @ The Lilypad, Cambridge – Indie-rock-electronic duo Friend Of A Friend headlines a night at The Lilypad with support from The Spyrals; tickets available now for the Nov 20 show starting at 7:30pm | $ 21, 7:30pm

Comedy & $4 Drinks @ Duck Duck Goofs, Somerville – A weekend standup show with rotating secret lineups, $4 drink specials, and comics from New England and beyond, all inside Somerville’s brand new club built for big laughs and late-night energy | $30, 8pm

WEEKEND SNEAK PEAK

Twelve artists face off in three fast-paced painting rounds as the crowd watches each piece come to life before voting for the night’s champion, with every work going up for silent auction and Lamplighter pouring all evening

The final outdoor market of the season brings 60+ vintage vendors to University Park, with racks spread across the green, bins to dig through, and plenty of space to browse one last time before the cold sets in; all ages and pets welcome and no entry line or fee

Saus hosts a Bow-Market-style Friendsgiving with every restaurant serving one-day-only Thanksgiving twists like green-bean-casserole empanadas, mashed-potato turkey pizza, and sweet-potato poutine, plus indoor RSVP seatings or a first-come communal courtyard table; food donations collected for the Somerville community fridge
